Steve Jacobs has taught and performed professionally in New York City since 1998. He has degrees in Creative Writing and Education from the University of Minnesota, leading to the creation of his critically acclaimed arts & music programs for kids.
He has studied with some of the great musicians of our time, including Chris Rosenberg and Kenny Wessel of Ornette Coleman’s Prime Time, Frank Potenza, Dave Stryker, Neilson Matta, Todd Johnson and many more. Steve founded and plays with The Dirty Sock Funtime Band, which has been featured on Nick Jr and PBS and named NYC’s Best Kids Band by Time Out New York.
Steve is also the co-founder of an award winning education company, Kids Creative. These two interests came together perfectly in CJtB. Since then, he’s taught hundreds of kids to play.
Noah is a native of Hamburg, Germany. He moved to New York to study jazz at NYU, where he earned his Masters of Music in Jazz Instrumental Performance. He loves sharing his passion and knowledge of music with kids, who inspire him in return with their creativity and energy.
Noah leads the Noah Rott Quartet, and has played a number of international festivals and toured extensively – but his greatest thrill is playing in front an intimate and appreciative audience, preferably in a tiny downtown club.
Luke grew up in Auburn, NY. After years of private studies with mentor Blake Fleming (The Mars Volta, Dazzling Killmen, Laddio Bolocko) and earning his degree in Music at SUNY Oneonta, Luke relocated to Brooklyn and dove headfirst into the music scene of NYC.
He has played and collaborated with artists on the cutting edge of jazz, and built a career that has taken him across the US and Europe. Luke loves teaching, and thinks you’re never too young to learn things the right way – something he puts into practice with CJtB.
Drew taught himself how to play the guitar and bass before launching into an intensive 7 years of private study. He has played live at some of NYC’s greatest clubs, like Rockwood Music Hall, the Bitter End and Bowery Ballroom.
He loves and is adept at all styles of music, but there’s a special place in his heart for Prince, Parliament, Funkadelic and Wes Montgomery. His biggest kick is passing his passion for music and stringed instruments on to kids.
